A Two-Minute Book Review

The Dearly Beloved by Cara Wall

This book. It cracked my heart open like a melon.

The debut novel captures faith, family, love, and friendship in a beautifully executed story. It follows the lives of two ministers and their wives. The simplicity of the premise allows for gorgeous writing and deep character development.

At one passage, I sighed and rested my hand over my heart. At another, I audibly gasped and held my hand to my mouth. Both times I felt tears well in my eyes. By the end, I was weeping.

I’m grateful Jillian picked it for me as a Blind Date With a Book. Like her, I want to push the book into everyone’s hands.

“She did not believe in God, and he did. Wars had been started for less, civilizations razed to dust.”

“His love was a steady longing that climbed around him, as if silkworms were using him as a loom.”
