Book Review: The Space Between Worlds
A Two-Minute Book Review
The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson
Narrated by: Nicole Lewis
I loved this book! It had good worldbuilding, a spunky main character, and well-developed supporting characters. Thanks, @spacetoread, for the recommendation.
It’s sci-fi, which might not be your comfort zone, but trust me, it resonates with family connections, societal/racial injustice, and being true to who you are. It was lovely. I haven’t been this wowed by a multiverse book since Ten Thousand Doors of January.
And that COVER (Swipe to see it larger)! I want to hang it on my wall.
I read this Audiobook as a library loan via the Libby App. The narration was exceptional, featuring various intonations for the characters. I could tell who what who from Lewis’ voice alone. (Plus, I love a narrator that brings a character’s snark to the forefront.)
Summary from Kirkus:
“In a desolate post-apocalyptic future, narrator Cara is a “traverser” for the Eldridge Institute of Earth Zero, which has discovered 382 alternate worlds. Because interworld travel is lethal to would-be traversers who have “dops” still alive on the Earth they’re visiting, Eldridge employs “trash people” who have died on most other worlds and can therefore survive travel to other realities. Cara, who hails from a bleak wasteland has died on almost every known world. When Cara visits an Earth very different from her home, she makes discoveries that could change multiple worlds.”
QOTD: Do you like sci-fi?
